Quick answer
For most newborns, choose the 0-3 month size in L'ovedbaby's organic snap footie. It accommodates growth and includes fold-over mitts for the first weeks.
Why size matters for newborn sleepwear
Newborns grow fast. A footie that is too snug can restrict movement and feel uncomfortable. One that is too loose may bunch up or pose a safety risk during sleep. The right size balances a body-hugging fit with room to grow.
L'ovedbaby's organic snap footie is designed with a body-hugging fit that moves with your baby. This is intentional for safety and comfort, but it means you should not size down for a "snug" look.
When to choose newborn (NB) vs 0-3 months
If your baby is under 5.5 lbs or you are buying for a preemie, the NB size works well. For a full-term newborn (typically 6-9 lbs), the 0-3 month size offers a better fit from day one and extends wear time.
The 0-3 month size also includes fold-over mitt sleeves (in NB, 0-3m, and 3-6m sizes) to protect against scratching. This feature is especially useful in the first weeks.
Frequently asked questions
- Should I buy newborn or 0-3 months for a 7 lb baby?
- Choose 0-3 months. It will fit comfortably now and last longer. The newborn size would be too snug for a 7 lb baby.
- How do I know if the footie is too small?
- Check for red marks on the skin, difficulty snapping, or the baby's toes pressing against the end. The footie should fit snugly but not leave marks.
- Can I use the footie for sleep?
- Yes. The body-hugging fit reduces excess fabric, making it safe for sleep. Always follow safe sleep guidelines: no loose bedding or toys. Remove any tags or packaging before first use.
